Some Interesting Facts

Charles Robert Vieritz did not emigrate to Australia with the rest of his family.  Instead, he is believed to have gone to Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, where he joined the Israelite religious community.  There is very little known about him or his descendants, however, a search on the Internet revealed the Israelite House of David and their Baseball Team which was very popular in the early 1900's.  Among their members listed in 1918, is an "Art Vieritz"(click to see picture) who is probably a descendant of Charles Robert Vieritz.  The House of David team was quite famous for their PepperGame exhibitions, where the bearded and long haired players, would hide the baseball under their beards.

Long distance runner, Ronald Grant, is married to Dell Maree Bishop, who is the grand-daughter of Alfred Owen Bishop and Christina Wilhelmine Vieritz.

LISA CURRY-KENNY
Olympic swimmer and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner, Lisa Curry-Kenny, is the grand-daughter of Roy Dennien and Hilda Vieritz.

SHIRLEY THOMS
Shirley Thoms, "Australia's Yodelling Sweetheart", is the sister of Vivien (Thoms) Vieritz, wife of my father's brother, Arnold.  Shirley was first married to Jack Sole of Sole Brothers Circus fame.

Margaret Bonner, sister of the late Senator Neville Bonner, was married to John Vieritz.
